Keeping it in the family

We have, at long last, settled on a winery name and in doing so we’ve happily stayed true to our roots as a family run company.

Copozzi was the last name of my great grandmother Maria Giovanna who was the first of our clan to make wine, a continent away in Pennsylvania. Maria Giovanna would have unspecified white grapes shipped in from California during prohibition and she would ferment them in her basement. According to my grandmother Isabella, she was quite the little winemaker, selling quarts to the locals and keeping a careful ledger in her notebook.

In honor of her efforts and in an attempt to stay true to our family roots, we decided that the name Capozzi Winery is the best fit for our fledgling operation. Legal paperwork is underway and in an effort to  perhaps assist other wannabe winery owners I’ll do my best to document the process.
