Pruning for Yield

Rebecca's Vineyard PrunedIts been a while since the last post, but work continues on the vineyard as we prune for next year’s crop. To the right is a picture of the pruning weights scattered about the vineyard.

Work on completing the label hasn’t yet started, but I’ve been taking care of other more mundane things, like getting OSHA certified on the forklift.

I was down tasting last year’s vintage again (our personal stash). Overall I’m pleased with the vibrant acidity and supple texture of the wine. The color is nice, though still very purple. It lacks some fruitiness that I enjoy in my favorite pinots, but as we move away from the sparkling wine-centric irrigation we currently employ toward complete dry farming, I expect this to improve immensely. Having a consulting winemaker at the helm who truly understands the myriad intricacies of pinot will make a huge difference as well. Still, its a lot of fun.

My Superbowl bet: Steelers by 10.
