Tyler from Dr. Vino wrote in yesterday to let me know that his article in the most recent issue of Wine and Spirits has hit the stands back east. This issue commemorates their 25th anniversary and sets out to catalogue the ‘best in the world of wine.”
Pinotblogger was listed with 4 other fantastic blogs,
Good Wine Under $20, written by the fabulous Dr. Debs
Brooklyn Guy Loves Wine
Wine Terroirs
and Ray Isle’s new blog on the Food & Wine website
I’m honored and thrilled to be in such good company, and grateful to Tyler for including me in the list.
Hilariously though, it didn’t turn out quite that well for Tyler himself. First off, the article doesn’t even reference his own award winning blog, which is I’m sure mildly annoying (Tyler is too classy to say). But it gets even better from there. In his own words, reprinted from the note he sent to the winners (and posted with his permission):
While it is an honor for me to have a story in the magazine, there are a couple of items of note. First, they misspelled my last name in the by-line (oh well). But even more horrifying is the illustration of me that accompanies the article. I can’t think why I was rendered, um, artistically while all the other contributors were given actual photographs.
No matter. Anyway, I trust that you got more accurate treatment in the article than I did!
Here’s the photo of Tyler that he sent in:

And the cartoon for quick comparison:

Too funny. I’m not sure why they’d single Tyler out for the “artistic” treatment. Perhaps Tina can weigh in on this one being as she is in the magazine biz. I think it might have something to do with the photo he supplied being too dark in the background, but who knows.
Maybe Tyler should have just run his mug shot through the Simpsonize Me tool and saved Wine & Spirits a couple bucks!
Good times.

Poor Tyler, that’s painful! Nope, I can’t think of any reason they’d go with an illustration of him, while the other contributors have regular photos. At W&V, we’ve considered doing illos of our columnists, but if we decided to go in that direction, we’d do it for all of them–not just one whose forehead we wanted to portray as Klingon-size. Hope to hell nobody ever does that to me!
