Part 1 of the John Zuccarino fiasco is here.
Due to some events last night, I feel compelled to post the following items.
First I’d like to point you toward this video.
I share this for two reasons.
1. It goes to credibility. You must discern for yourself the credibility of the man who is accusing me of the most heinous charge that can be leveled against a person.
2. John Zuccarino very clearly believes I am behind the dgiovannisucks Twitter account.
I’m not. Moreover, I have no idea who is behind it. The day this all went down I was enjoying the opening day of the Wine Blogger’s Conference with 275 other bloggers. But it is instructive to note that his believing I have something to do with this might account for his behavior toward me.
I’d also like to point without comment to this post by John on erobertparker, from today. Specifically this quote:
I will not be mocked or libeled in any way…not even on this BB…I expect to see deleted posts that are not true…TY
I have not had anything close to a bottle of wine for over 7 months…you can find the thread in SH …I went on my wine break this lasted over 6 weeks without symptoms of withdraw so enough about being drunk…I drink a glass a day lunch and one dinner…if that now…
Last night someone calling from the Circulation Department of the Finger Lakes Times and, claiming to be a reporter, spoke with a former board member at a non profit organization of which I was previously a board member and President.
The caller did not leave his name. I called and spoke with Jim Miller at the Finger Lakes Times and he said he had no knowledge of any story being pursued about Zuccarino, myself or Lenn. He also said it was very strange that a call seeking comment would originate from Circulation. I will be speaking with the managing editor later today about this.
Despite all this, the board was forced to draft and vote on a statement. I republish it here:
“Josh is an outstanding person of the highest integrity. We will not comment on any outrageous and false accusations made about him by any individual.”
That this had to even be drafted, and that these ridiculous allegations are being considered for even a moment by people with whom I work and respect causes me the greatest distress.
Finally, I have never in my life either viewed or trafficked in child porn.
I can’t express how unbelievably frustrating it is to have to deny a charge for something so repugnant. Freedom of speech is sacred and should always be defended, but there are some words that you can never take back. There are words that stain, that do not wash out. The people who utter those words should do so with the utmost care. And, if they don’t, they should be held accountable.
I demand a public apology from John Zuccarino, and that he recant every hateful word that he has written to besmirch my reputation.
Thank you to everyone for your kind comments and support.

This is absolutely the most ludicrous thing I have ever seen. I’m speechless.

Guys like this don’t make a lot of friends. I imagine there a lot of people a lot closer to home that think Don Giovanni sucks – he has made an astonishing cognition-free leap to conflate Josh – thousands of miles away and presumably with no axes to grind in the Finger Lakes – with whoever is behind the Twitter account.
I don’t know if Don Giovanni wines suck. I never will know, because I will never taste one out of principle. Nor will anyone I know.
I do know that with every move this strange person makes he digs the grave for his ambitions a lot deeper.
Every population has its outliers. Unfortunately for the rest of us in the wine industry, guys like this can give all of us a bad name.

This is categorically preposterous! I have know Josh for the last 3 years after meeting him through his blog. His family and my family have enjoyed company together numerous times. We converse and share time together daily and weekly. We consider each other very close friends. This form of insult is unfounded and slanderous. I am outraged that someone would publicly make comments likes these about anyone. I think a formal apology is the first in a long line of steps this Don Giovanni should take to correcting this wrong.
My support is with you my friend!

Josh, I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with the outright abrogation of common sense of an obvious crackpot. It’s not clear to me why this guy has a beef against you and Lenn, but he sure is hell-bent on running his winery business into the ground. I find myself wondering how I can unfollow a Twitterer whom I wasn’t following in the first place, and now never will. Meanwhile, my sentiments lie with the comments above: your community – our community – can only grow stronger. Stay strong, my friend.

You should contact Robin Garr. Zuc use to post some pretty outrageous stuff on his website and I think he was finally banned. He seemed to clean up his act a bit on Squires board, but lepoards do not change their spots. I hope you get this resolved, good luck.

koo-koo for coco puffs.
Josh, you don’t have to say anything. Just let this guy keep talking himself into even more of an incoherent mess.

wine bloggers are such a contentious bunch. Can’t we all just get along and enjoy the beverage we all love.

I’ll give you the most honest answer you’re likely to hear.
We are a fallen people, living in a fallen world where our broken relationships with one another are a woeful, pale shadow of what they will eventually be.
Hope this helps.

I’m late to the party (nothing new there), but found myself amazed at what I’ve observed, just from @DonGiovanniWine’s twitter account. Needless to say, I have blocked that account from all of my Twitter accounts, because there’s just no reason to listen to hate.
I wish you guys the best of luck in dealing with this. I can only hope that karma will be repaid tenfold upon the perpetrator.

I support you guys 100%, let me know what else I can do to help. Looks like the video up top was removed, but this kind of behavior cannot be allowed to occur anywhere. Very much uncalled for.
