He concluded that San Pablo Bay would shield Napa through fog generated from evaporation, and the the main effect of warming would be higher nighttime temps, which would help with physiological ripening without contributing to higher sugar!

		<description><![CDATA[Last year at the Meadowoods writers conference one of the presenters was from a study group that the Napa Vintners paid to forecast effects of Climate Change that they were recording already. Their conclusions were that in the future it might be necessary to move vineyards closer to the coast and farther north. Good news for Sonoma. The point of their study was that its not just about the warming; rain fall, its effects on insects, wind patterns, more extreme cool areas are all a factor for grape vines. It would be great if it was all about sugar, but wine, like climate is about so much more.

		<description><![CDATA[I think we are on opposite sides of the AGW debate, as we have twittered back in forth before.  But, you are right on the mark with your comments about the Atlantic piece trying a little to hard to be an alarmist article in order to get readers or make a point, or push a book.

I, personally, think there is reason for significant environmental action to be taken, but to forecast dire consequences, bordering on the death of an industry or region, all to stir up fears with Climate Change as the boogie man. By doing that, he is doing his cause and his reputation a disservice.

There are lots of thing that need to be done to combat AGW, but Napa&#039;s wine industry will more likely be hurt in the next few decades by idiotic wine laws and legislation, than it is by a globally significant, but regionally insignificant change in temperature.

I thought John Williams&#039; comments were honest, truthful responses by someone who is environmentally conscious and understands the reality that there is more than one issue that the industry has to face.  Not everything has to be about climate change.
